Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word, derived from two roots: ayur, which means life, and veda, knowledge. Knowledge arranged systematically with logic becomes science. Over the course of time, Ayurveda became the science of life. It has its root in ancient vedic literature and encompasses our entire life, the body, mind and spirit. Ayurveda is based on scientific principles of diagnosis and treatment. It differs from conventional medicine in the basic principles of investigation and assigning causes to processes rather than specific areas of physiology.
A science that began over 4000 years ago, Ayurveda has assimilated various regional influences through time and has influenced various other systems such as TCM, Unanni, Siddha etc. Based on scientifically proven principles ayurvedic products were sold purely on the basis of historic claims. This led to a downfall in its popularity since modern science questioned safety, efficacy, drug interactions, production methods etc.
